Aristocrat Flowering Pear (Pyrus calleryana ‘Aristocrat’) is a beautiful tree which produces clusters of white flowers in early spring. The flowers are followed by glossy green, disease resistant leaves. In fall the foliage turns to tones of red and purple. Aristocrat Flowering Pear trees have a more dominant trunk and open form that helps this tree to be less susceptible to wind damage. Ideal for prominent areas of the garden.
Quaking Aspen (Poplus tremuloides), also known as golden or mountain aspen, is the most widely distributed deciduous native tree in North America. Its tolerant of various soils including both sandy and gravelly slopes. Quaking Aspen trees are fast growing and very hardy. The Aspen is great tree with year-round appeal with light bark, trembling leaves, and brilliant yellow fall color.
Peppermint Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica ‘Nana’) is a semi-dwarf shrub with pink blossoms and is often planted as a specimen shrub or in hedges. Large clusters of pink flowers appear on the tips of new branches beginning in early summer and continue into fall. After flowers fade and fall from the tree, fruit remains in the form of small brown capsules. These fruits remain throughout the winter providing winter interest along with the attractive, exfoliating bark which peels away to expose a trunk which ranges in color from many handsome shades of brown to gray.
White Ash (Fraxinus Americana), the largest of all ash trees, is one of the most attractive native trees. This long-lived, fast growing tree develops an open and round shade as it matures. This deciduous tree has firm gray bark with diamond-shaped furrows and interlacing ridges. The tree grows best in the rich, moist, well-drained soils. Several kinds of birds eat the fruit. The foliage is dark green in the summer and turns to yellow or maroon in the fall.
Pin Oak (Quercus palustris) is a popular fast growing oak. It can grow 12 to 15’ over a 5 to 7 year period. It has pyramidal, dense, pendulous lower branches when mature. As the tree ages it tends to lose its lower limbs. Young trees and lower branches of older trees hold leaves throughout winter.
October Glory Red Maple (Acer rubrum ‘October Glory’) is a wonderful Red Maple cultivar. It is prized for its vibrant fall color. In the spring, red flowers in dense clusters form before the leaves. This Red Maple is an excellent tree for lawn or street planting. The ‘October Glory’ Red Maple has a good oval-rounded form. It tends to hold its lustrous dark green leaves late into fall. The intensity of the brilliant orange to red fall color is worth the wait. October Glory Red Maple trees have a dense oblong head with dark green foliage. Excellent color for the south.
Weeping Willow (Salix Babylonica) is one of the fast growing deciduous trees. When mature it exhibits graceful wide weeping, spreading branches. Its green leaves are thin and narrow, sometimes with whitened or silky undersides. In fall its leaves turn to yellow. Its is ideal for area with wet soils. Weeping Willows are one of the first trees to leaf out in the spring and one of the last to drop leaves in the fall.
