Across the country, the tradition lawn is the dominant landscape feature. Lawns are quite labor intensive as they need weekly moving and other tasks such as aerating. Some lawn space can be managed with little trouble but the vast, weed-free lawn can be rethought. If you’re attached to the more traditional garden setting you can still add variety to your landscape. Consider expanding you shrub borders and perennial gardens and include native species. If you have a vast lawn and want to reduce its size consider planting a large shade tree. In the shade of the tree remove an area of lawn and replace with woodland perennials.
