Evergreen shrubs provide the garden with year-round color and interest. Variegated varieties are perfect for brightening up a shady landscape. Some of the most popular varieties include Euonymus, Holly, and Arborvitae.

Wintercreeper Euonymus (Euonymus fortunei ‘Gracillimus’) is a creeping evergreen shrub with colorful white, green, and purple leaves. Clusters of insignificant, green flowers appear in May and June among small, lustrous, green leaves with yellow margins. This variegated evergreen shrub makes excellent groundcover and is a often planted as specimens or used in rock gardens and low-maintenance gardens. Its tough and will thrive in any well-drained border in sun or partial shade.

Mugo Pine (Pinus mugo ‘Rock Garden’) is a true dwarf variety. Many mugo pines have an unpredictable grow rate and size, this variety however has been propagated to remain a dwarf. This mugo pine is a low-growing, spreading evergreen. It has dark green, stiff needles that are 2-3 inches long. Its easy to grow as it is tolerant of a wide range of conditions. Widely used in foundation plantings and is an excellent choice for bonsai projects and Japanese gardens.
