for indoor use, do so in the early morning for best results.
Rose Gardens
Roses are perhaps the most popular of all garden plants. There are a number of different varieties in endless colors. Some roses can be grown as ground covers while other may be trained to grow on arbors, trellises and other garden structures. Many varieties bloom continuously, with diligent deadheading, throughout the entire growing season. Others still are treasured for their fragrance.
Creating Wildflower Gardens
Wildflower meadows are a wonderful alternative to the traditional lawn and garden. Wildflower meadows are ever changing, easy to care for and offer a wide range of flowers with vibrant colors and interesting textures. Most flowers in the wildflower meadow are perennial and will survive year after year. Others may last only one season then be replaced with something new. Meadows are also ecological beneficial since they only need to be mowed once a year, increase plant diversity, introduce native species of plants and provide a home for wildlife.
Perennial Selections For Season Long Color
I started to plan a couple perennial gardens for next season. Here’s what I’m thinking of planting in the garden.
Early Flowers - iris, poppy, aneome, primrose, lily of the valley, coral bell, Solomon’s seal, leopard’s bane, foam flower, lungwort, globe flower, epimedium, bleeding heart, speedwell
Planting Annuals
Annuals provide gardeners with an inexpensive way to add diversity and an array of long lasting colorful flowers to the landscape. Although they will flower all season long, annuals sprout from seed, produce flowers, set their seed and die within one growing season.
Perennial Gardens
Perennials, plants which live for more than two seasons and produce flowers which die back to the ground each fall, are treasured for their ability to bloom and grow larger year after year. They’re are also prized for vibrant colors and their ability to attract birds and other wildlife to the garden. While perennials are easy to grow, there are a few basic maintenance guidelines to follow which will help your garden flourish. The following lists seasonal perennial garden maintenance tasks.
Perennials return…
year after year, while annuals last just one season.
Encourage annuals to bloom…
all season long by deadheading frequently.
Tall perennials,…
such as daisy, often become top heavy and should be staked.
